Decoded: How did Yuvraj Singh fetch Rs 14 crore?

Feb 16, 2014
One has to admit that this was out of the blue, for sure, he was going to be the most sought after name in the IPL auction, but no one thought that he would make record by becoming the highest grossing player ever in IPL. When Royal Challengers Bangalore successfully bid for Yuvraj  Singh, Rs 14 crore, many eyes popped as he became the most expensive player in the history of IPL. There are some reasons that can explain why this happened.

RCB needed a big name in their middle order, who have some T20 experience as well. Though they have Mayank Agarwal and Saurabh Tiwary in their middle order, but they were clearly not that effective, which made RCB desperate to get Yuvraj in their squad.
There were many instances where their opening batsmen didnt fire and they had to loose the game due to problem in chasing big totals. Here comes the role of Yuvraj, he fits the requirement perfectly. The time has shown that bowling of  Yuvraj Singh has proven to be a useful asset for his team, which added for him to be selected by RCB. His all round package of skills justified his selection and the heavy bid amount. Yuvraj Singh played for Pune Warriors in the last 3 seasons of IPL and has a pretty decent track record, but he hasnt been in the best of his forms in last year and was also not included in the national team. Now its on to Yuvraj to prove his point and to justify the jaw dropping price tag.
